Greetings!

Thanks for stopping by! My name is Jannik. I'm a philosopher and classicists by training but I am also *very* fond of photography! I live with my wife, Julie, and our two kids, Sikker and Kirstine, in Copenhagen, Denmark.

Most of the images here are from that city - where I have been living since October 1965 when I was 7 months old!

A rose in late sunlight

Shot across the fence of a small garden in Guldbergsgade - one of the strangest streets in all of Copenhagen because of its intense mix of people with all kinds of income-level and ethnic background. On the one hand it's a street that's kind of tucked away - for years it was a street with *very* little traffic. For this reason it was often used by less kind people to dump worn out (or stolen) cars. It was not uncommon to see "new" old cars every week - without license plates and with broken windows (often without doors and seats as well). In recent years the area has seen a tremendous growth in small shops, restaurants, kindergartens - and one of Copenhagen's most popular cinemas. For this reason it is now a very popular street with all kinds of trendy people moving around between the local drunks :-)

I did several vertical versions - but none came out with as pleasing light and colours as this one. I did pop it up in Picasa, but even without pop it was much superior to the other (better composed) versions.

From a recent visit to the Zoo with Sikker, Kirstine and Sikker's best friend, Pelle. The kids are trying to capture pearls with tools resembling the bill of the Ibis and the bill of the Spoonbill.

My daughter, Kirstine :-) You are only seeing a small part of the artwork here. Only her neck and back wasn't painted today! That's what happens when both mum and dad are busy...

Still trying to improve my portrait skills - so here is another shot of Sikker. I had a hard time cropping this one in a satisfying way. The bulge on Sikkers cheek didn't help :-)

You know that you are obsessed with photography, when you just have to take a picture of the bubbles when doing the dishes :-)

I'm way out of my comfort zone here. I am allergic to soft focus - but as I was playing with this image in Picasa, I overcame my strong resistance to press the "soft focus"-button for the first time in my life - and sort of liked the effect it had on my image. It seems to me that the soft focus adds an interesting contrast to the somewhat moody nature of the light. A bit like the effect of hearing a big, fat Elvis singing a strangely melancholic song - if you'll forgive me :-) The centered subject versus the curved line of leaves adds an other interesting tension, in my opinion. Your thoughts, please :-)

A scene from the oldest churchyard in Copenhagen - Assistentens Kirkegård. Hundreds of famous writers, musicians and respectable citizens resting right in the middle of Nørrebro, the solid working-class part of Copenhagen where almost all of the radical left in Denmark are living (and this photographer) :-)

Kirstine enjoying life in Tivoli. I have long been thinking about getting a more portable camera to complement my trusty Konica Minolta dSLR. Since I also wanted a music player, I decided to get both in one packet and went for a Nokia N95 8GB phone. This is one of the first decent shots from that phone (out of almost hundred)!
